Vernon Jones, a Republican candidate for Georgia’s 10th Congressional District, is laying out a vision that would lead to the impeachment of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and put former President Donald Trump back in the Oval Office.

During an interview on One America News, Jones said, “[On] my first day in office, I’m going to introduce articles in terms of legislation that will go after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and impeach them.”

“And then work to get my colleagues to join me on voting for President Trump to be speaker of the House. We cannot wait until 2024,” he added.

Under the Presidential Succession Act of 1947, if the president dies, resigns, or cannot continue to serve, they would be replaced by the vice president.

The official next in line to become president is the speaker of the House.

Some Republicans have floated the idea of making Trump the speaker if they regain control of the house after the 2022 midterms. The speaker is not required to be a member of the House, so Trump could theoretically be named speaker.

Jones did not provide any grounds for impeaching Biden and Harris. Even if Republicans had enough votes in the House to impeach both leaders, the effort would most likely fail in the Senate, where 67 votes would be needed to convict them on an impeachment charge.

Earlier this month, Joe Kent, a Republican candidate for Washington’s 3rd Congressional district, claimed that the party’s “job” would be to impeach Biden after the midterms.
