Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) did not get the warmest response to his message at a conservative gathering.
Speaking at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s “Road to Majority” Policy Conference on Friday, Christie took aim at former President Donald Trump.
“Why am I running for President of the United States? I’m running because he’s let us down,” the former governor said.
He went on:
“He has let us down because he’s unwilling to take responsibility for any of the mistakes that were made, any of the faults that he has, and any of the things that he’s done.”
Christie added, “That is not leadership, everybody. That is a failure of leadership.”

The crowd booed in response.
Christie shot back, “You can boo all you want!”
He added, “But here’s the thing, our faith teaches us that people have to take responsibility for what they do.”
Christie announced his presidential campaign with harsh words for the former president, despite previously being a supporter of Trump.
During his campaign kick-off event, he called Trump a “lonely, self-consumed mirror hog.”
“Beware of the leader in this country, who you have handed leadership to, who has never made a mistake, who has never done anything wrong, who when something goes wrong, it’s always someone else’s fault. And who has never lost,” Christie said.
According to FiveThirtyEight’s polling aggregator, Trump receives 52.5% of the vote in the primary while Christie receives 2%.
