Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) is sharing her plan to ensure Attorney General Merrick Garland is arrested after the House voted to hold him in contempt.
During an appearance on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Luna explained a resolution she plans to introduce on the House floor, which she claims would lead to the chamber’s sergeant at arms arresting the attorney general.
“Several months ago, I introduced a resolution for something called Inherent Contempt of Congress. This is something that Congress has the authority to do, and it hasn’t been done since the early 1900’s…I anticipated that the Department of Justice would not do their job. And so I had this teed up and ready to go. I’ve brought this to Speaker [Mike] Johnson’s attention,” the congresswoman said.
She added, “And what that allows Congress to do is really be the punitive arm and really hold Garland accountable by using the Sergeant at Arms to essentially go and get him, as well as the tapes, bring him to the well of the house and really be a check-and-balance on the Department of Justice.”

Last week, the House voted to hold Garland in contempt after he refused to hand over audio tapes of President Joe Biden’s interview in the investigation into his handling of classified documents.
After the vote, the attorney general said, “It is deeply disappointing that this House of Representatives has turned a serious congressional authority into a partisan weapon. Today’s vote disregards the constitutional separation of powers, the Justice Department’s need to protect its investigations, and the substantial amount of information we have provided to the Committees.”
“I will always stand up for this Department, its employees, and its vital mission to defend our democracy,” he added.
However, the Justice Department has said it will not act on the contempt charge as Biden asserted executive privilege over the tapes.
Still, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) insisted House Republicans will “enforce the subpoena of Attorney General Garland in federal court.”
