Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) is suggesting there should not be a State of the Union address this year.

During an appearance on Fox Business on Monday, Perry suggested the House should not invite President Joe Biden to deliver his annual address as a method to build pressure to respond to the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“We need to use every single point of leverage — every single point including the spending and certainly including an address to the people from Congress,” the Pennsylvania Republican said.

He added:

“He comes at the invitation of Congress, and Republicans are in control of the House. There’s no reason that we need to invite him to get more propaganda and actually blame the American people for the crisis he’s caused.”

Perry’s comments come after it was reported 7.2 million migrants have illegally entered the country during Biden’s presidency.

Fox News notes, “That figure comes from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which has already reported 961,537 border encounters in the current fiscal year, which runs from October through September.

“If the current pace of illegal immigration does not slow down, fiscal year 2024 will break last year’s record of 2,475,669 southwest border encounters — a number that by itself exceeds the population of New Mexico, a border state,” it explained.

Additionally, it comes after Congressional Republicans sank a bipartisan border security measure earlier this year.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) dismissed Biden’s potential executive action on the border as “election year gimmicks.”

Biden and former President Donald Trump are slated to travel to different sections of the border on Thursday.
