Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley is insisting former President Donald Trump is not mentally incompetent.
However, she believes he will experience a cognitive decline as he continues to age.
During an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Haley was asked about her attacks on Trump and her decision to question his mental competency.
“Are you arguing that the former President is mentally incompetent?” Hewitt asked.
Haley answered, “No, I’m not saying that. What I’m saying is that this is just common sense. If you have two men running for president that are in their 80s, you are going to get what you get when you’ve got two men running in their 80s.”
“Look at Joe Biden two years ago. He is very much diminished from when he started, because this job is hard. There’s a lot of pressure. There’s a lot of late nights. You’ve got to make tough decisions, and it wears on you. And so, you know, this is tough if you’re 50 years old. It’s even tougher if you’re 80 years old,” she added.
Haley went on to note that Trump appeared to confuse her with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and blame her for security issues ahead of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
“It doesn’t mean he’s mentally incompetent. It means that when you have someone that is at that age, you are going to see that kind of decline. And look at how fast it declined with Biden. But think about what America is saying. Seventy percent of Americans don’t want Trump or Biden, and it’s not because it’s personal. It’s because they want a new generational leader,” she added.
When asked if she thinks President Joe Biden is “too infirm” to do the job, she said, “I am very concerned about Joe Biden. It is why I’ve always said that the one we’re actually running against is Kamala Harris, because a vote for Joe Biden is a vote for Kamala Harris.”
Haley also stated she believes Trump is more fit than Biden as she said, “Like you can see that he is, you know, he’s not moving slow like Biden. He’s not, you know, mumbling his words like Biden.”
However, she still expressed concerns about the 45th president’s age.
