Vice President Kamala Harris claimed during Tuesday’s presidential debate that former President Donald Trump “left us the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War,” pointing to the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
She said:
“Vice President Harris: Let’s talk about what Donald Trump left us. Donald Trump left us the worst unemployment since the Great Depression. Donald Trump left us the worst public health epidemic in a century. Donald Trump left us the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.”

Donald Trump Jr. responded to the remark, writing on X, “Kamala Harris actually said that January 6th was the worst attack on our democracy since the civil war…The day before 9/11.”
