Former Vice President Kamala Harris is keeping her eyes focused on the Whote House.
All the signs are there that Harris is aiming towards being a top Democrat contender come 2028.
Axios reported Harris is forging ahead even many donors and fellow Democratic leaders believe she can’t win the presidency.
However, she has shown to be near the top of recent Democratic primary polls.
She is most popular among Black voters, who have been are seen the most critical voting group in most recent Democratic presidential primaries.
One telling tale for a campaign is Harris has expanded her your touting her book “107 Days,” about her short presidential campaign in 2024.
Also telling is where she is taking her tour — South Carolina including Detroit, Jackson, Miss., Memphis, Tenn., and Montgomery, Ala. — all places with a high Black voting census.
She has also been out and about by appearing before the Democratic National Committee.
She and her husband, Doug Emhoff attended the and event with national party officials and state party chairs in Los Angeles.
DNC chair Ken Martin introduced Emhoff as the former second gentleman and added he could be the future first gentleman, according to people at a reception.
Harris made a speech to Democratic officials Friday when she slammed both parties and the current status quo. She also veered away from defending former President Joe Biden, who she served with.
“Both parties have failed to hold the public’s trust,” Harris said. “Government is viewed as fundamentally unable to meet the needs of its people…. People are done with the status quo and they’re ready to break things to force change.”
“We cannot afford to be nostalgic for a flawed system that failed so many,” she continued, then stating President Donald Trump is a “symptom” of a bigger problem.
Following the speech, some committee members said they want Harris to run in 2028.
Harris spokesperson Kirsten Allen said Harris “will approach 2026 with the same commitment that anchored 2025 — listening to the American people, reflecting where leadership has fallen short, and helping shape the path forward beyond this political moment.”
Allen also said this includes “supporting efforts to win back Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.”
Harris spoke Thursday night at the annual gala for the United Farm Workers where she was enthusiasticly received.
UFW President Teresa Romerosid, “Rank and file UFW members from towns like Bakersfield, Salinas, Oxnard, and Modesto were excited to see her and know she’s still fighting for them.”
Other potential 2028 Democratic candidates include California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
In early polls, Newsom appears to be the top candidate.
