Actress Hayden Panettiere opened up about having to relinquish custody of her daughter.
On an upcoming episode of Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk with Jada Pickett Smith, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and guest host Kelly Osbourne, Panettiere spoke about the “very upsetting” time she had to give custody of her only child, Kaya, over to her father Wladmir Klitschko, whom she split from in 2018.
She claimed that at first there wasn’t an agreement, “because there wasn’t a discussion.”
“If he had come to me and said, ‘You know, I think because of where you’re at right now and the struggles that you’re having, it would be good for her to be over here with me for awhile.’ To which I probably if I had had enough of a conversation would have said, ‘Okay that makes sense I get it I’ll come there to visit’ and stuff like that,” she said in a clip shared exclusively with People.
Panettiere explained that the papers were to give Klitschko full custody and that signing them “because of the way that it was done” was “the most heartbreaking thing” she ever had to do in her life
“I was gonna go work on myself, and I was gonna get better, and when I got better then things could change and she could come to me and I could have my time with her but that didn’t happen,” she shared.
In July, Panettiere spoke candidly to “Good Morning America” about turning to “the bottom of a bottle” for support after struggling with postpartum following the birth of her daughter in 2014.
She also revealed that she went to treatment and is now sober from alcoholism.
“I’m good it’s an everyday battle, it really is. I’m grateful to say that I’m sober today,” she said.
