Former Democratic strategist Dan Turrentine praised President Donald Trump on the Monday edition “The Morning Meeting” for brokering a peace deal between Israel and Hamas.
Trump traveled to the Middle East on Monday to celebrate and oversee the first phase of the deal, which included the release of all the hostages taken by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023. Turrentine said on the 2WAY show that he was amazed by Trump’s evolution since entering politics roughly a decade ago, asserting the deal merited recognition and celebration.

“I was struck just thinking about the arc of Donald Trump’s 10 years — and just all the ups and downs and where he was just a few years ago, the unconventional nature of kind of how he operates, the personnel around him,” Turrentine said. “We hold him to account rightfully when they err — but this is an instance where it spectacularly worked. And it’s historic and he deserves all the credit and basking in everything today. You tip your hat to him.”
Hamas released all 20 surviving Israeli hostages and they returned to their families on Monday.
Other Democrats have also praised the Trump administration for achieving the peace agreement, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during a CBS News special presentation on Friday.
“I really commend President Trump and his administration, as well as Arab leaders in the region for making the commitment to the 20-point plan and seeing a path forward for what’s often called the day after,” Clinton told CBS News correspondent Norah O’Donnell.
However, numerous Democrats acknowledged and praised the peace efforts while omitting references to Trump entirely, including former President Barack Obama in a Thursday X post. CNN host Abby Phillip on Saturday called out Obama over his omission on her show “Table for Five.”
“Honestly, it’s not unfair to say if President Obama is going to write a whole post about a peace deal, maybe he should acknowledge the president that brokered it,” Phillip said.
Moreover, a male Democratic New York C-SPAN caller wept on “Washington Journal” Monday as he reflected on Trump’s peacemaking between Israel and Hamas following his speech to the Israeli Knesset on the topic.
“That was a — I’m going to get choked up — a momentous speech … I’m sorry for being so emotional, but it’s a great moment in history for everyone,” the caller said.
