A tragic helicopter training incident at Fort Campbell claimed the life of one soldier and left another injured, military officials announced on Thursday.
According to the Associated Press, the accident occurred Wednesday evening at approximately 7 p.m. within the Fort Campbell training area, according to a statement from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
Emergency responders arrived swiftly, confirming one soldier’s death while the other was transported to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in stable condition.
Authorities have withheld the soldiers’ identities for at least 24 hours to ensure their families are notified first. An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
Fort Campbell has seen previous aviation tragedies.
In March 2023, a devastating collision between two HH-60 Black Hawk helicopters during a nighttime training mission about 30 miles northwest of the base resulted in the deaths of all nine soldiers on board. The installation, located along the Kentucky-Tennessee border, remains a critical hub for military operations.
