Hoover Institution senior fellow Victor Davis Hanson said Tuesday on his podcast that Democrats have given up on using President Joe Biden to push their “far-left agenda” after President-elect Donald Trump won the 2024 election.
Since Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss last month, Democrats have begun to blame each other for the outcome, with some, like Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California, suggesting the party could have held an open primary for a stronger candidate if Biden had ended his reelection bid sooner. On “The Victor Davis Hanson Show,” co-host Jack Fowler said it appears Trump is in control of foreign affairs, with world leaders requesting meetings with him — even though Biden will remain in office until mid-January.
“I was thinking that too, Jack,” Hanson said. “They tried to destroy Michael Flynn for so called, remember, conducting foreign policy when he was not yet officially in office by supposedly talking to a Russian diplomat. Remember that, right?”
Hanson went on to claim that if Biden were “sane,” Democrats would be going after Trump. However, due to concerns about the president’s mental fitness, they have seemingly stopped pushing their policies, and Hanson highlighted recent moments in which Biden was criticized for appearing confused while on in front of the press and, at times, speaking incoherently.
“But my point is this, is that if Joe Biden was president, and he was sane, and they would go after Trump. But the reason they’re not going after Trump is even the left knows there is no president. There is a president in name only who was put there as a facade to leverage a hard left agenda, and that facade has now dissipated, evaporated. So there’s nothing there,” Hanson said.
“I mean, he wandered into the jungle. We never knew if he came back, and then he speaks a language other than English,” Hanson added. “I couldn’t understand. Every time he’s on the air, I say to my wife, ‘I can read four or five languages. I cannot understand that language. What is it? I don’t know what it is.’ I’m not being cruel to the elderly because he’s obnoxious, and he’s cruel to people. So he’s not functional, and he knows it.”

Hanson then pointed out Harris’ first appearance since her loss to Trump, noting that the party posted a nearly 10-minute video of Harris appearing disheveled, with Hanson suggesting she might have had “a little bit to drink.”
“So they take a 30-second clip,” Hanson said. “It looks like she lost all muscularity in her neck. Her head is drooped. She looks like she has no makeup on. She looks, I don’t know, sick. She looks wrinkled, tired. Her hair is disheveled.”
“If you ask me, without any evidence, and I’m not engaging in character assassination, but I would think she’d had a little bit to drink. She seemed to be on the verge of slurring a lot of words,” Hanson added. “So after all of that, I mean, she’s not in charge. So nobody’s in charge. Who’s in charge? Donald Trump stepped up. He said, ‘Hey, we don’t have a president, and we don’t have a vice president. So I’m going to be president.’”
Following Trump’s victory, world leaders who had unsurprisingly supported him, such as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, offered their congratulations to the former president. However, other leaders who had been vocal in their criticisms of Trump, like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, expressed confidence that the two “will work together to create more opportunity, prosperity, and security for both of our nations.”
