Everyone from Hollywood notables to politicians are mourning the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner.
The legendary director, 78, and his 68-year-old wife were found dead inside their Brentwood, California, home Sunda, per NewsNation.
Former President Bill Clinton posted, “Hillary and I are heartbroken by the tragic deaths of our friends Rob and Michele Reiner. They inspired and uplifted millions through their work in film and television.”
“And they were good, generous people who made everyone who knew them better through their active citizenship in defense of inclusive democracy, setting an example for us all to follow,” he continued. “Hillary and I will always be grateful for their friendship, unfailing kindness, and support.”
“Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele,” former President Barack Obama posted on X. “Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen. But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action.”
“Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them,” he added.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) took to Facebook, saying, “The news of a deadly assault on Rob and Michelle Reiner in their home is devastating. It’s hard to think of anyone more remarkable and excellent in every field and endeavor they pursued.”
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said she was “heartbroken by their deaths.
“Personally, I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele. I knew Rob and have tremendous respect for him.”
Reiner’s career spans decades from writing on for “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,” acting on “All in the Family,” and directing many films, including “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “Misery.”
Author Stephen King said he was “horrified and saddened” by the news, CBS News reported.
Reiner’s “Stand by Me” was based on King’s novella “The Body.” Reiner also directedKing’s “Misery.”
“Wonderful friend, political ally, and brilliant filmmaker,” King wrote. “Rest in peace, Rob. You always stood by me.”
Actor Jerry O’Connell, who was one of the co-stars in “Stand By Me.”
He posted a photo on Instagram of himself and Reiner on the set of the 1986 movie.
He wrote,”Love you Rob. Sincerely.”
In an interview on “CBS Mornings,” O’Connell called Reiner’s death “surreal.”
“Rob was like a father to me,” he said. “Everything I have is because of Rob Reiner. … It’s just a sad, shocking day.”

“What a huge loss,” actor Ben Stiller wrote on X.
Stiller said Reiner was one of his favorite directors and said he had an “incredible run of movies.”
“He made some of the most formative movies for my generation,” Stiller posted. “‘Spinal Tap’ is one of the best comedies ever made — and the list goes on. He was a kind caring person who was really really funny. I didn’t know him well but was always a fan and I feel a real sadness for those who did, and his family.”
Actor and Screen Actors Guild president Sean Astin said Reiner was “one of those most significant figures in the history of film and television,” whose cultural influence “simply can’t be overstated.”
“Our entertainment community and audiences around the world will mourn deeply. On a personal note, so many of Mr. Reiner’s films and performances made me think, made me emotional and especially they made me laugh really hard. That’s how I will remember him,” Astin added.
