House Democrats are making history with their choice to replace House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as the leader of their caucus.
In a Wednesday vote, Democrats unanimously voted to make Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) the leader of the party in the House.

Jeffries will be the first Black lawmaker to lead a major party in Congress.
The vote to elevate him to the new role comes after Pelosi announced she would step down from leadership but remain in the House, as IJR reported.
