The groundswell of support hit another level as a resolution was presented in the U.S. House of Representatives to give former President Donald Trump the Congressional Gold Medal.
The resolution is headed by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) who said Trump should be honored “in recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication to strengthening America’s diplomatic relations during his presidency,” according to Fox News Digital.
“President Trump’s fearless leadership reestablished America as a respected and admired global power. It is time we recognize a president who put our country first and secured global peace through bold diplomacy,” Luna said.
“Despite the liberal media’s attempts to spread fear, America and the world were undoubtedly safer under President Donald Trump. One of our duties in Congress is to honor those who have contributed significantly to our nation, and that’s why I’m introducing this legislation,” she added.
There have been 158 recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal.
Other recipients include President Ulysses S. Grant, Thomas Edison, Jessie Owens, the Navajo Code Talkers, and Martin Luther King Jr., according to the Smithsonian.
George Washington was the first recipient in 1776.
The Congressional Gold Medal is given by Congress and “is Congress’s highest expression of national appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions by individuals, institutions, or groups. It can be awarded to anyone Congress deems worthy,” per the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.
House GOP Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania, and Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.), Randy Weber (R-Texas) and Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) are all supporting the resolution.
The resolution is co-sponsored by House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good (R-Va.), who previously endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for president.
He changed allegiance to Trump when DeSantis dropped out of the race.
“President Trump did more in four years on behalf of the American people than any president in my lifetime. He secured our border, achieved historic peace in the Middle East, and implemented policies that helped our economy prosper,” Good said. “The last three years of a failed Biden administration have only served as a stark contrast to President Trump’s record.”
Ogles asserted that Trump’s “contributions to the American heritage and stalwart defense of the American way of life.”
However, it is not likely the Senate, where Democrats are in the majority, will vote on the bill.
Regardless, Republicans continue to support Trump.
On Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) attended Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan, the IJR previously reported.
“President Trump is innocent of these charges. And again, anyone with common sense can understand what is happening here,” Johnson said.
But not everyone is in favor of Trump receiving the honor and posted their opinions on X, formerly Twitter.
