Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has a choice to make: pick a Black woman as his running mate or “lose the election,” several Black public figures are saying.

The letter is signed by over a hundred male public figures including radio host Charlamagne tha God and comedian Nick Cannon.

The letter reads, “For too long Black women have been asked to do everything from rally the troops to risk their lives for the Democratic Party with no acknowledgment, no respect, no visibility, and certainly not enough support.”

The letter continues to read:

“Failing to select a Black woman in 2020 means you will lose the election. We don’t want to choose between the lesser of two evils, we don’t want to vote the devil we know vs. the devil we don’t because we are tired of voting for devils period.”

While Biden has committed to choosing a woman as his running mate, he has faced calls to choose a Black woman. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) is one of those people urging Biden so do so, as IJR reported.

“Let me guarantee you this, based on everything that I know and understand, and the help that [Biden] has already gotten from the Black community… he can’t go home without a Black woman being VP,” Waters said during a town hall on Friday, adding, “We’re going to have a Black woman VP.”
