A former aide under President Joe Biden claimed Monday she was not working in the White House “in the end” when Fox News host Harris Faulkner asked if it was “hard” to “skew the truth.”

President Donald Trump took hundreds of executive actions during his first week in office, including a crackdown on illegal immigration and a rollback of climate policies undertaken by the previous administration. During a panel discussion on Trump’s first week in office, Faulkner grilled former Biden administration official Meghan Hays about the administration’s claims regarding “Bidenomics.”

“Was it hard in the end to skew the truth?” Faulkner asked Hays. “Like, it just really was confounding for people that the messaging out of the administration that you helped with messaging couldn’t get it right even about ‘Bidenomics’ not working for people.”

“So, I actually left the Biden administration in the fall of 2022, I was not there in the end. When I was there, we passed the bipartisan infrastructure bill, the [Inflation Reduction Act] IRA, the Chips and Science Act, so when I was there the messaging was extremely different. But, I take your point. I don’t have – I wasn’t there,” Hays said, with Faulkner responding, “I appreciate that. It sounds like you left at the right time.”

Since Biden took office in January 2021, prices shot up by over 20% and the Consumer Price Index (CPI) hit a four-decade high of 9% in June 2022, after then-President Biden signed multiple spending initiatives into law, despite some economic experts warning in 2021 that proposed spending programs from the Biden administration could trigger inflation.

Many officials dismissed inflation during the first two years of the Biden administration, with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell saying that inflation would be transitory during an August 2021 speech at Jackson Hole, Wyoming before admitting in September 2021 that inflation ended up lasting longer than he “expected.” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen admitted she was wrong to underestimate the risk of inflation during a June 2022 appearance on CNN.

Questions were also raised about the White House’s truthfulness about Biden’s health. On multiple occasions, Biden said he spoke with people who had died, including former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who died in 2017, and former French President Francois Mitterrand, who passed away in 1996 on two occasions in February.

In September 2022, Biden asked for Republican Rep. Jackie Walorski of Indiana at a conference that took place several weeks after Walorski and two staffers were killed in a car accident.

Biden also suffered multiple falls during his term in office, including one at the Air Force Academy in June 2023, a fall while on his bike in June 2022 and tripping on the steps of Air Force One on multiple occasions. Biden took a different set of stairs onto the VC-25, a modified Boeing 747 used as Air Force One, among other concessions to his age in the later years of his administration.

A Wall Street Journal article published Dec. 19 revealed White House aides “insulated” Biden, even from Cabinet members, as his health declined, months after similar articles published by outlets earlier in the year generated pushback from some media outlets.
