WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 13: U.S. President Joe Biden arrives for a meeting of his National Infrastructure Advisory Council in the Indian Treaty Room of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on December 13, 2023 in Washington, DC. President Biden talked about his administration's success in passing the $1 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, legislation that is "not just about building infrastructure," he said. "It’s about building better infrastructure.” (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)

A focus group polled by The New York Times is favoring former President Donald Trump over current President Joe Biden, who some called “senile.”

A focus group of 13 independent voters were asked by The New York Times about the upcoming presidential election and their views on the two leading candidates.

One of the many things discussed with the voters, who range in age from 22 to 64, was Biden’s mental capability.

“I’m very young, so I’m going to say what a Gen Z person would say: He’s a little bit senile, and I do think if you can’t do the job, it’s time to step down,” Natalie, 22, from New Jersey. “I want to say he means well, but it doesn’t look like it from what he does.”

Natalie added, “He promised student loan forgiveness, and that never happened.”

For Henry, a 60-year-old Black consultant from Georgia, it appears nothing much is getting done with Biden as president:

“His intentions are good. But with the lobbyists and the big businesses controlling everything, there’s not much going to get done.”

Another member of the group called Biden a “puppet.”

“That’s because I feel like he really tap-dances. I don’t know what he’s done. It just seems like he’s just throwing things out there to please almost anyone,” she said

Another adjective a different member offered as “disingenuous.”

“Nothing that is said really connects with me. I don’t feel like I’m being told the truth. I don’t feel like I’m being told anything upfront. I was just so disappointed — with the ounce of hope I had left — when we just started pouring money into the Israel conflict,” the stay-at-home mom said.

A white architect from Arizona called Biden “unfit for the presidency.”

“A president should be the commander in chief. And he does not appear to be a capable commander in chief,” he said.

He pointed to Biden’s foreign policy as a reason:

“The deal with Iran is not a good one. Now they have loads of cash. So that’s not great. Our ships are parked in the Mediterranean Sea outside Israel, and they’re just outside of Russia’s missiles. So they’re not going to be attacked, probably, but this is going to disrupt prices. It’s going to disrupt oil, energy. These are not smart decisions.”

However, Trump did not walk away unscathed.

While the group viewed Trump negatively, the members feel he is better for the country.

“At least Donald Trump started a conversation. Sure, it was divisive, and sure, it really wasn’t the most productive, but it really highlighted problems and the divisiveness that was already hidden inside of our country,” a woman from Alabama said.

However, the Latina woman also said she experienced more racism while Trump was president.
