Israel unleashed a bombing campaign in Lebanon on Wednesday despite a recent ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated in an X post that it “completed the largest coordinated strike across Lebanon since the start of Operation Roaring Lion,” targeting Hezbollah headquarters, military arrays and command centers. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly agreed that fighting in Lebanon could continue during a phone call in the lead-up to the ceasefire, Axios reported.

At least 89 people have been killed and more than 700 wounded in the strikes Wednesday, The Associated Press reported, citing Lebanese Health Ministry figures. More than 1,500 people have been killed since the conflict began in March, with another million displaced.

Hezbollah had stopped its attacks early Wednesday morning as the ceasefire took effect, Reuters reported, citing three Lebanese sources.

‼️ In 10 minutes, the IDF completed the largest coordinated strike across Lebanon since the start of Operation Roaring Lion.

The strike targeted 100+ Hezbollah headquarters, military arrays, & command-and-control centers in Beirut, Beqaa and southern Lebanon, including:

“Hezbollah was informed that it is part of the ceasefire – so we abided by it, but Israel as usual has violated it and committed massacres all across Lebanon,” senior Hezbollah lawmaker Ibrahim al-Moussawi, told Reuters,

Images and videos show the demolition of residential quarters, apartment buildings smashed and entire city blocks laid to waste.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Red Cross announced in a post on X that it is utilizing “100 Red Cross ambulances” to transport injured Lebanese people to hospitals.

Should Israel continue military actions in Lebanon despite the ceasefire?

Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, stated on March 31 that the 89country plans to occupy all territory to the banks of the Litani River in southern Lebanon, according to the BBC.

“At the end of the operation, the IDF would control the area up to the Litani River, including the remaining Litani bridges, while eliminating Radwan forces that infiltrated the area and destroying all weapons there,” Katz said, The Guardian reported.

If the IDF is successful in acquiring the territory, it would effectively cut the nation of Lebanon in half.

This action occurred after the IDF began to become bogged down in their offensive into Lebanon, which began on March 2. Hezbollah’s forces learned from the Russian Federation’s military actions in Ukraine. They mirrored the first-person view drone tactics learned in that conflict.

Unverified videos began to surface from the battlefield in Lebanon, where vehicles like Merkava main battle tanks began to fall victim to the fast-moving drones armed with shaped charge warheads. The drones attack their targets from the top down, negating active protection systems. However, it is unclear if the videos depict successful hits. The videos often cut out at the moment of impact when they either lose signal or the fiber optic control cable gets cut.

Hezbollah is a Muslim terrorist organization that receives the majority of its funding from Tehran.

Lebanon isn’t a purely Muslim country. An official report from the U.S. Department of State estimates that “30.7 percent of the population is Christian.” The president of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, is also Christian.

Vice President J.D. Vance, who is leading the negotiations with Tehran, has called the ceasefire a “fragile truce.”
