Political analyst Mark Halperin joined a three-time President-elect Donald Trump voter named Jamie on Thursday in criticizing the media’s coverage of the Biden administration’s crisis.

President Joe Biden presided over the highest level of net migration in American history, according to The New York Times’ Wednesday analysis of government data. Jamie and Halperin, on “2WAY Tonight,” accused the media of prioritizing support for Biden over holding his administration accountable, arguing that this bias has endangered Americans in an effort to undermine Trump.

WATCH:

“To me, the media is supposed to be unbiased, but they’re supposed to protect citizens; they’re supposed to protect humanity in a way, right? Report on things that are happening. And the border has really upset me, because when you refuse to report on the border, as most of the media did, you’re not protecting citizens from illegal aliens who are committing crimes like a Laken Riley,” Jamie said. “You’re not protecting our folks who are dying of drug overdose. And my biggest thing is these children missing at the border.”

An illegal Venezuelan migrant named Jose Ibarra was convicted in November for killing Georgia nursing student Laken Riley in February. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have lost track of at least 32,000 migrant children released from the custody of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Health and Human Services since 2019, according to an August report by the DHS’ Office of the Inspector General in August.

“The fact that the media decided that they were more interested in protecting Joe Biden and the Democratic Party than they were in protecting the citizens and the children, I don’t care where these children are from,” Jamie added. “They need to be protected … To me, it’s just appalling that we have a press that would rather protect one party and one president.”

“Jamie, I wish every journalist, every executive producer, every news executive, every reporter who covers the administration could hear what you just said. And brilliantly and well expressed —  fundamental failure of people in my business to do the most basic job, as you said it,” Halperin responded. “And I’d say running parallel to that … the exact same dynamic is the president’s cognitive decline. Same thing. Public interests completely ignored in a conspiracy of silence. Without thinking about the public interest, simply thinking, ‘But we can’t let Trump win again.’”

There were about 8.5 million migrant encounters along the U.S.-Mexico border during the four fiscal years of the Biden administration, according to Customs and Border Protection data.

“And in both cases, the policies and practices of the Democratic Party were not just policy malpractice, but political malpractice. How do you have a policy deeply unpopular from day one, with effects that spiral out of control, that make things worse and worse — and you do nothing about it? In part, because the media doesn’t do its job,” Halperin added.

“If the media had been saying, ‘Joe Biden seems to have a significant loss of cognitive decline,’ or if the media had been saying in 2022, ‘Every Democrat we talk to who represents a border state is saying privately, and some publicly, this policy is not working,’ then perhaps there would have been change,” he said.

The political analyst suggested there may have been less American murders at the hands of illegal immigrants if the media had been less biased.

“You’re absolutely right about the failure of the press. And I would say what’s compounding it is silence. Sure, they write a story today, but the story doesn’t say, ‘Editor’s note: We should have written this story three years ago. We should have written it two years ago and 11 months ago.’ Same on the Biden cognitive decline,” he said. “And people are not stupid — even people who are not news obsessives. They’re not stupid. They know that the press tried to protect Joe Biden and they don’t like it.”

Halperin also noted that voters on his 2WAY platform have said they “voted for Trump because the press is so biased,” regardless of how they felt about the president-elect.

Trump has pledged to conduct a large-scale deportation operation in his second term.
