Democratic strategist James Carville said Friday that the Democratic Party lost on immigration in the 2024 election because President Joe Biden took advice from the “idiotic far-left.”

Border officials encountered a record-high of over 2 million illegal immigrants throughout Biden’s term in office, prompting concerns about immigration and drawing attention toward heinous crimes committed by illegal migrants. During an interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Carville said the far-left influenced the last administration to keep the border unsecured and caused the massive immigration crisis witnessed by Americans throughout the past four years.

“In terms of the border, all of that is because Biden listened to the idiotic far-left,” Carville told Piers Morgan. “And by the time that he left office, the border was a very orderly place, a lot of good it did us, but it’s really true if you look at the crossing statistics. Every person in history that has listened, not just to the far-left in the United States but anybody in the West, that pays attention to the far-left has lived to regret it. These people have never been right about a single thing. Nothing, and they keep running their mouths.”

WATCH:

During the Biden administration, migrant encounters exceeded 2.4 million and 2.1 million in the 2023 and 2024 fiscal years, with a record of over 300,000 migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border in Dec. 2023, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data. Border encounters dropped once Trump won the 2024 election in November, prompting would-be illegal immigrants and migrant caravans to turn around and avoid crossing the border.

The record number of border crossings and catch-and-release policies of the Biden administration led to the murders of 22-year-old Laken Riley, 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray and 37-year-old Rachel Morin at the hands of illegal immigrants. The convicted killer of Riley traveled from New York to Athens, Georgia, on a humanitarian flight after having been arrested in New York City for allegedly acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 years old.

An increasing number of Americans believe illegal immigration is a massive security threat and support mass deportations. One poll from August found that 50% of Americans believe large numbers of migration poses a “critical threat” to the U.S., and polls found that most Americans support the use of the military at the border and deportation operations.

Trump put an end to the migrant crisis almost immediately once he took office on Jan. 20, with encounters and apprehensions declining to record lows. Trump announced there were only 8,326 apprehensions during his first full month in office, while Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said there were 200 migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border on Feb. 22, marking the lowest single-day apprehension number in over 15 years.

Border czar Tom Homan, who started as a border agent over 40 years ago, said in a Feb. 17 statement that he does not recall ever seeing  border crossing numbers that low in a single day.

Biden, along with other Democrats, claimed that they could not secure the border without an act of Congress. The Trump administration, however, has made significant changes to the border without any piece of legislation passed by Congress.

Since Trump took office, ICE arrests surged by 627% in comparison to the last administration, with agents arresting over 20,000 illegal immigrants in a single month, according to Homeland Security.
