Famed actress and activist Jane Fonda is endorsing Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for president, highlighting his stance on climate control.
On Friday, Fonda conducted her routine Fire Drill Fridays initiative geared toward politicians with a focus on climate change. The 82-year-old activist believes Sanders is the presidential candidate that will properly address climate control.

“We have to get a climate president in office, and there’s only one right now, and that’s Bernie Sanders,” Fonda told USA Today. “So, I’m indirectly saying I believe you have to support the climate candidate.”
In August 2019, Sanders unveiled the Green Deal New —his proposed plan of action to combat climate control. The detailed proposal outlined a plan for the U.S. to transition to rely 100% on renewable energy for electricity and transportation.
Under Sanders’ plan, the transition is projected to take approximately 10 years — by 2030. The Vermont lawmaker also is confident decarbonization can be achieved by 2050.
“This is a pivotal moment in the history of America, and really, in the history of humanity,” Sanders previously said, adding, “The climate crisis is not only the single greatest challenge facing our country; it is also our single greatest opportunity to build a more just and equitable future, but we must act immediately.”
To advance the initiative, Sanders believes it would open the job market and create approximately 20 million new jobs.
Although the plan has often been solely associated with climate control, Sanders has often urged voters to focus on the bigger picture.
In November, he doubled down on his stance tweeting, “The Green New Deal is not just a climate plan. It is an economic plan. We will create 20 million jobs and invest $16.3 trillion in our economy.”

The latest news follows a string of reports about Fonda’s political efforts. The actress has been arrested a total of five times while attending weekly climate control protests in Washington, D.C. She resumed her protests in February in Los Angeles, Calif.
