Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett could be seen shimmying in her seat Sunday on MSNBC while discussing what would happen if Democrats took back the House majority.

With the midterm elections approaching, Democrats have been working to win back voters in hopes of knocking down the Republican majority in both the House and Senate. While on “Alex Witt Reports,” Crockett was asked whether Democrats would plan to investigate President Donald Trump’s crypto acquisitions if her party were to regain control of the House.

“Well Alex, I’m glad you asked. Listen, so long as we end up taking the House, which I fully anticipate that we will do and we are gonna work hard to obviously help our Senate colleagues as well,” Crockett said. “Then as someone who serves on the Oversight Committee and hopes to lead the Oversight Committee, I can guarantee you that we will do what we are supposed to do as constitutionally sworn members of the House.”

“Which means that we will conduct oversight, that means that we will investigate, we will look at whether or not this president himself has violated the Emoluments Clause as relates to say such things as getting a $400 million plane from the Qataris. We also will make sure that we’re looking into all these business deals that they have going on,” Crockett added.

On May 1, Crockett reportedly began pitching herself to fellow Democratic colleagues to run for the Oversight Committee’s top position, according to Politico. The bid comes after former Democratic Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly passed away on May 19 from a recurrence of cancer.

Crockett went on to list the issues she would investigate Trump for, stating there would be “no shortage of things for us to dig into.” Host Alex Witt then continued to press the lawmaker on whether she would officially announce her run for the Oversight Committee’s top position.

“I absolutely do. You know unfortunately we are going to lay our dear colleague Gerry Connolly to rest here on Tuesday. There will have to be an election to determine who is going to lead the oversight committee,” Crockett continued.

“Ultimately I am hoping and praying that my colleagues see that I can provide what we need as a team to make sure that we can move forward and instill some confidence in the American people by knowing that they have a real fighter who will not back down even in the face of all the threats that I will have waged at me,” Crockett added. “Because Lord knows I get death threats every single day. But at the end of the day I truly believe that God will never leave my side and so I will fight fearlessly and ferociously for the American people.”

Connolly announced in April that his esophageal cancer had returned, revealing he would not seek reelection and would resign as the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. Alongside Crockett, Democratic Massachusetts Rep. Stephen Lynch is also seeking the position, Politico reported.

Democrats impeached Trump twice during his first term in office, and Trump’s 2016 campaign was investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller for alleged ties to Russia. Trump was indicted four times following his first term in office, and faced a civil fraud case brought by Democratic New York Attorney General Letitia James, who campaigned on prosecuting Trump.

The events of Jan. 6, 2021, were also investigated by a Democratic-led committee in the wake of Trump’s supporters rioting at the United States Capitol.
