Johnson: Dems Will Impeach Trump if They Win Majority

US Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (C), Republican from Louisiana, leads a news conference with Republican Congressional leadership outside the US Capitol on the first day of the US government shutdown in Washington, DC, on October 1, 2025. The US government began shutting down after midnight on October 1 as lawmakers and President Donald Trump failed to break a budget impasse during acrimonious talks that hinged on Democratic demands for health care funding. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) believes if Democrats win the majority, they will impeach President Donald Trump.

Johnson offered up his prediction during an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, according to the HuffPost.

“Speaker Johnson, you have a very, very, very narrow majority. On a scale of one to 10, how likely is it that the Republicans build on this very slim majority next year?” Ingraham asked.

“We’re gonna win the midterms, absolutely,” Johnson said. “We’re gonna have a big victory. And I think we can expand that majority so we can keep going. We have to give President Trump four years and not two. Imagine if the Democrats took over the House; they’d impeach him.”

Trump has already been impeached twice — the first president to be impeached twice.

The first impeachment — on Dec. 18, 2019, — came when he suggested he would withhold military aid from Ukraine unless it investigated Joe Biden.

The Senate acquitted him in Feb. 5, 2020.

The second happened on Jan. 13, 2021, after Trump attempted to reverse the results of the 2020 election and instigating an insurrection at the Capitol.

Johnson’s interview took place before the federal government was set to shut down at midnight Wednesday.

House Republicans a measure to fund the government through Nov. 21.

However, on Tuesday, the measure failed to get the 60 Senate votes needed to advance.
