The recent revelation that the Department of Health and Human Services allocated more than $22 billion in grants to migrants and refugees during the Biden-Harris administration is a stark reminder of the previous administration’s misguided priorities and failed policies.
In fiscal year 2023 alone, spending surged to an unprecedented $10 billion, funding programs ranging from car and home purchase assistance to business loans and legal aid for migrants. This extravagant expenditure burdened American taxpayers and undermined the nation’s border security and sovereignty.
Under the Biden-Harris administration, the southern border faced a historic crisis. Daily encounters with illegal migrants exceeded 11,000, overwhelming border patrol agents and straining resources. The administration’s lenient policies, including catch-and-release practices and relaxed asylum protocols, acted as magnets for illegal crossings.
This lax approach not only compromised national security but also facilitated human trafficking and the disappearance of more than 350,000 children, many of whom were sold into modern-day slavery and remain unaccounted for to this day.
In stark contrast, President Donald J. Trump’s Administration has taken decisive action to rectify these failures and restore order at the border. By reinstating strict immigration policies and enhancing border enforcement, the number of daily illegal crossings has plummeted. This represents a monumental shift from the chaos of the previous administration, signaling a renewed commitment to border and national security and the rule of law.
A cornerstone of President Trump’s strategy is appointing seasoned professionals dedicated to enforcing immigration laws. Border Czar Tom Homan has pledged to “eradicate every criminal migrant from the U.S.,” emphasizing the administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward illegal immigration. This unwavering stance has resulted in a 98% increase in arrests of migrants with criminal records and a 105% surge in arrests of suspected gang members since President Trump’s return to office, according to the latest report by U.S Customs and Border Protection.
The Trump-Vance administration’s efforts extend beyond mere enforcement. Recognizing the humanitarian crisis perpetuated by open-border policies, there is a concerted focus on combating human trafficking and locating the missing children lost during the Biden-Harris administration’s tenure. By dismantling trafficking networks and enhancing interagency collaboration, the Trump administration aims to bring these children to safety and hold perpetrators accountable.
Financial accountability is another critical area of reform. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has initiated a comprehensive review of federal spending on migrant programs, identifying and eliminating wasteful expenditures. For instance, $59 million in misallocated FEMA funds intended for migrant hotels in New York City have been reclaimed, and responsible officials have been dismissed. This fiscal prudence ensures that taxpayer dollars are utilized effectively and in the nation’s best interest.
The previous administration’s policies strained federal resources and placed undue pressure on local communities. Cities like New York witnessed an influx of migrants, leading to overcrowded shelters and stretched public services. The financial and social burdens of accommodating large numbers of migrants fell disproportionately on local taxpayers, exacerbating tensions and challenging community cohesion.
In addressing these challenges, the Trump administration has also taken steps to correct past injustices. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem issued a personal apology to horseback border agents falsely accused of misconduct during the previous administration.
This gesture not only restores the dignity of the wrongfully accused but also boosts morale among law enforcement officers dedicated to protecting our borders.
The contrast between the two administrations’ approaches to border security and immigration is stark. While the Biden-Harris era was marked by leniency, fiscal irresponsibility, and compromised security, the Trump-Vance administration emphasizes law enforcement, fiscal accountability, and the protection of American sovereignty.
By prioritizing the safety and well-being of its citizens, President Trump is reaffirming the Nation’s commitment to lawful and orderly immigration.
The restoration of robust border security measures and the reevaluation of migrant-related expenditures reflect a broader commitment to national integrity and the rule of law. As the administration continues to address the multifaceted challenges inherited from Joe Biden, the American people can be assured of a government that places their safety, security, and prosperity at the forefront of its agenda.
