Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.) will not seek reelection for his position serving in Congress.

Amash — who is a vocal critic of President Donald Trump — confirmed in a tweet late Thursday, “I love representing our community in Congress. I always will.”

He continued, “This is my choice, but I’m still going to miss it. Thank you for your trust.”

Additionally, Amash’s adviser Poppy Nelson told The Detroit News, “He hasn’t been campaigning for any office and doesn’t plan to seek the nomination for any office.”

There is, however, speculation that Amash, a five-term congressman, is not finished with politics, following his decision to change to the Libertarian Party in 2019.

He previously wrote in The Washington Post on his decision to switch from the Republican Party, “Modern politics is trapped in a partisan death spiral, but there is an escape.”

Amash concluded his op-ed, “I’m asking you to believe that we can do better than this two-party system — and to work toward it. If we continue to take America for granted, we will lose it.”

A few months ago, Amash announced he was forming an exploratory committee in a 2020 White House bid with the Libertarian Party. He then dropped that in mid-May.
