White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Monday that President Donald Trump’s administration will take the threat of transgender violence “seriously” following a slew of killings involving trans-identifying individuals and supporters.

Incidents of violence committed by transgender people and their sympathizers have appeared to become more prominent in recent years, despite the fact that trans-identifying adults make up less than 1% of the U.S. population. The press secretary said that the uptick in trans violence is “worth looking into” and that it is being “taken seriously” by the administration.

“It’s definitely something worth looking into and I think anyone who denies that at this point is being willfully ignorant,” Leavitt said. “And the administration is taking it seriously, all causes of violence and why people would be driven to such evil and such hatred. And there’s probably many answers to that question, but the administration is really focused on all of them. For individual investigations and cases, of course, the FBI and the Department of Justice are leading those. But as for this overall violence and domestic terrorism that we’re seeing, the White House and the president’s policy team will be leading the charge and that really begins with designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization and I can assure there will be additional actions to come.”

The alleged assassin of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson, is in a relationship with a trans-identifying male named Lance Twiggs, whom he later confessed over text message to committing the assassination. Robinson’s parents told authorities that he had become “more pro-gay and trans-rights oriented” in recent years, Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Gray said on Sept. 16.

Robinson is accused of shooting Kirk in the neck on Sept. 10 as he answered a question on transgenders committing mass shootings.

In August, a trans-identifying man named Robin Westman allegedly opened fire through the stained glass windows of Annunciation Catholic Church and killed two students while they were attending Mass. Court records found that Westman’s mother, who worked at the church, approved of her son’s request to legally change his name from Robert Paul to Robin M. while he was still a minor because he wanted his name to reflect his feminine identity, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune.

New documents have revealed that Nicholas Roske, the alleged would-be assassin of Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh, identifies as transgender.

In March 2023, a trans-identifying female named Audrey Hale killed three nine-year-olds and three adults at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, marking the event the deadliest school shooting in Tennessee’s history. Her diary, which was released in its full form in September 2024, revealed that Hale grew to hate society and herself over the belief that she was born in the wrong body. She also used the term “f***t” to describe Jesus Christ and her father.

Maya “Alec” McKinney, a female who identifies as a man, was convicted of participating in a shooting that killed one student and injured eight others at STEM School Highlands Ranch on May 7, 2019. Snochia Mosley, who also identified as trans, killed three people inside a Rite Aid and then killed himself in 2018.

Following the shooting at the Annunciation Catholic Church, the DOJ reportedly began considering placing a ban on firearm purchases for trans-identifying individuals.
