White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday that Democratic New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani’s baseless blame of President Donald Trump for the bomb threats in New Jersey is “completely irresponsible.”
Mamdani alleged, without evidence, that the bomb threats were part of Trump’s plan to “intimidate voters” and “repress the voice of Americans.” Leavitt said that Mamdani’s comments further prove that the Democratic Party’s only purpose is to retaliate against Trump.
“I think they are completely irresponsible and they are based on zero evidence,” Leavitt said. “And I think this is just another example of how the Democrat Party, unfortunately, stands for nothing. All they stand against is President Donald Trump. And I think it’s quite sad to see that we have someone at the top of the ticket on an election day today saying such things about the president when he obviously had absolutely nothing to do with those threats.”

Polling sites in several counties across New Jersey were relocated on Tuesday morning in response to the threats. The threats were investigated and not found to be credible.
New Jersey is facing a highly contested governor’s race between Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli. Sherrill was leading in the race by an average of 3.3 points on Election Day, according to RealClear Politics.
Mamdani is the frontrunner in the race with a 14-point lead as of Tuesday, according to RealClear Politics. The self-professed democratic socialist is running against Independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, who received an endorsement from Trump, tech CEO Elon Musk and White House chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller.
Trump told CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell that it will be “hard” for him to “give a lot of money to New York.” In response, Mamdani warned that he will “defy” Trump.
