Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former California prosecutor, television personality, and close ally of President Donald Trump, officially assumed her post Tuesday as the first female U.S. ambassador to Greece.

According to The Associated Press, Guilfoyle, 56, who was previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr., presented her diplomatic credentials to Greek President Constantine Tassoulas following her Sept. 29 swearing-in ceremony in Washington.

Her appointment comes as the United States seeks to strengthen energy ties with Europe, particularly by increasing liquefied natural gas exports through Greek port facilities.

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum are also visiting Athens this week for talks aimed at expanding Western gas exports to Ukraine via a modified multinational pipeline network.

Guilfoyle and the visiting U.S. officials are set to meet with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and participate in ministerial meetings hosted by the Washington-based Atlantic Council.

Since 2018, Greece and the United States have deepened their military cooperation, including expanded U.S. access to Greek bases and greater involvement of American defense contractors in Greece’s multibillion-dollar armed forces modernization program.

Over the weekend, Guilfoyle attended a black-tie welcome reception in Athens alongside local business leaders and government ministers. She joined guests in a lively Greek dance, keeping pace as the music quickened.

“I know we will do amazing things for these two exceptional countries,” Guilfoyle told attendees. “I will not disappoint the United States of America. I shall not disappoint Greece.”

At Tuesday’s credential ceremony, Guilfoyle presented her papers following the new ambassadors from Norway, Harriet Berg, and Canada, Sonya Thissen.
