White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is scolding “right-wing” news outlets for sharing videos that raise questions about President Joe Biden’s mental fitness for the job.
During a press conference Monday, Jean-Pierre addressed a series of videos that appeared to show the president wandering off or looking confused, saying, “I think you all have called this the ‘cheap fakes’ video and that’s exactly what they are, they are cheap fakes video [sic], and they are done in bad faith.”
“And some of your news organization[s] have been very clear, have stressed that these right-wing — the right-wing critics of the president have a credibility problem because of, the fact-checkers have repeatedly caught them pushing misinformation, disinformation,” she added.
Watch the video below:
Jean-Pierre went on to claim an article published by the Washington Examiner called out conservatives for sharing allegedly misleading clips of Biden.
The Examiner did publish a story in which British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak defended the president after a video showed him wandering away from the group of world leaders at the G-7 summit following a skydiving demonstration.
“They all landed, and he was being very polite and went over to talk to all of them individually, and Giorgia was saying, ‘Don’t worry, they’re all coming,’” Sunak said.
However, he acknowledged Biden was not following the plan for the leaders, “We were meant to line up, and they were coming to shake our hands.”
In case you missed the moment:
Jean-Pierre claimed of the alleged “cheap fake” videos, “It tells you everything that we need to know about how desperate Republicans are here.”
“And instead of talking about the president’s performance in office — and what I mean by that, his legislative wins, what he’s been able to do for the American people across the country — we’re seeing these deepfakes, these manipulated videos, and it is, again, done in bad faith,” she added.
“Cheap fake” refers to real videos that have allegedly been edited, as opposed to deepfake videos which are created by artificial intelligence.
The White House and Biden’s defenders have argued videos such as Biden at the G-7 summit, or him appearing to be led off a stage at a fundraiser by former President Barack Obama are being taken out of context.
