Well, well, well—if it isn’t New York’s favorite Trump-obsessed crusader suddenly clutching her pearls and crying foul now that she finds herself under the microscope. Letitia James, the same State Attorney General who made a national name for herself by allegedly weaponizing her office to go after Donald Trump for years, now wants her own mortgage fraud charges dismissed. Why? Because she thinks the Trump administration is being too mean.
Seriously.
In a 22-page filing dripping with the kind of dramatic flair usually reserved for courtroom TV dramas, James’ legal team is now claiming that the prosecution against her is not just wrong, but unconstitutional. The same person who ran for office bragging about how she was going to “get Trump” is now whining that the Trump administration is out to get her. Irony? Meet Letitia.
At the heart of this legal soap opera is a pretty straightforward allegation—that James misrepresented a Virginia property as a “second home” to lock in a favorable mortgage rate… and then turned around and rented it out. Oops. That’s not just bending the rules, it’s the kind of thing that ordinary Americans—those without political connections or a fancy title—have been prosecuted for countless times. But James isn’t just anyone. She’s a card-carrying member of the “rules for thee, not for me” club.
Letitia James called me a “right-wing fringe blogger” in her motion to dismiss today.
If exposing your own filings makes me “fringe,” what does that make the person who signed them?

But now? Now that the tables have turned and it’s her credibility on the line, suddenly the justice system is broken and the Constitution is being trampled. Her lawyers are practically breathless in their indignation, accusing officials like Fair Housing Finance Authority Director Bill Pulte, DOJ’s Ed Martin, and interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan of “outrageous government conduct.” Their argument? That these officials dared to… apply the law. To her.
And let’s talk about Bill Pulte for a second. This guy had the gall to refer James for prosecution after reviewing the alleged mortgage fraud. Naturally, her attorneys don’t see that as responsible oversight or due diligence—they see it as a political hit job. They’re accusing Pulte of turning his agency into a partisan attack dog. Which is rich, considering this is the same Letitia James who basically campaigned on turning her office into a political weapon against Trump. If weaponizing government is a problem now, someone better pass James a mirror.
Then there’s Ed Martin, the DOJ’s special attorney for mortgage fraud, who had the audacity to call for James’ resignation after the charges were filed. Her legal team called his letter “a plain intention to pressure” her and claimed it violated professional ethics. Apparently, holding a public official accountable is now unethical. Who knew?
And let’s not forget Lindsey Halligan, the interim U.S. Attorney who dared to do her job. According to James’ lawyers, the whole case amounts to “vindictive prosecution,” because of course it does. It couldn’t possibly be about the facts or the law—no, it must be political retribution.
Look, you don’t have to be a lawyer to see what’s going on here. When James was wielding the legal system against her political enemies, she was hailed as a fearless champion of justice by the left-wing media. Now that she’s the one answering tough questions, suddenly the justice system is corrupt and the Constitution is under assault. The double standard is staggering.
The timing of this sudden crisis of conscience is also convenient, isn’t it? With Trump back in the White House and Vice President J.D. Vance not exactly shy about government accountability, it seems like the old rules are finally being applied across the board. And that’s a problem for people like Letitia James, who spent the last several years acting like the law didn’t apply to them—as long as they were on the “right side” of history, of course.
So now we’re supposed to feel sorry for her? Like she’s some kind of victim of political persecution? Spare us the drama. If these charges are really as baseless as her attorneys claim, she’ll have her day in court. But until then, maybe take a break from lecturing the rest of us on the Constitution. Because the rule of law doesn’t stop applying when the target is wearing blue instead of red.
Letitia James wanted a political fight. Now she’s got one. Let’s see how much she enjoys being on the other end of the spotlight.
