Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes looked toward heaven when looking for whom to credit for the Chiefs win over the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime on Sunday.
The three-time Super Bowl MVP told reporters the credit goes to God.
“I just got to give God the glory,” the Daily Wire reported Mahomes saying. “He (God) challenged us to make us better. And I am so proud of my guys man, this is awesome. It’s legendary.”
This is not the first time Mahomes talked about his faith.
He praised God after he won the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award for the 2022 season.
“First, I want to thank God for giving me this platform and putting so many amazing people around me to help support this dream I’ve had since I was a little kid,” Mahomes said. “Without him, none of this would be possible.”
He also discussed his faith at a Super Bowl event last year.
“My Christian faith plays a role in everything that I do,” Mahomes said.
“I mean, I always ask God to lead me in the right direction and let me be who I am for His name,” he added. “Obviously it will be on a huge stage in the Super Bowl that He’s given me and I want to make sure I’m glorifying Him while I do it.”
Mahomes had spoken about his relationship with God last year after recovering from an injury to lead the Chiefs to beat the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship.
“First off, I wanna thank God, man,” he said. “He healed my body this week, had to battle through that. He gave me the strength to be out here.”
