Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is reacting to a “wild” conspiracy theory that Super Bowl 58 was scripted for political reasons.

After Chiefs’ victory at the big game, their third in five years and second win in two years, Mahomes was interview by CNN’s Abby Phillip on Monday night.

“There were some wild conspiracy theories that were flying around this season that the Taylor Swift effect was all scripted to allow Taylor to use the Super Bowl for politics, basically,” Phillip began as she noted an odd political aspect of the game. “The president himself, President Biden, kind of got in on the joke a little there.”

She asked, “What do you make of just how this has spiraled, not just to football, but to politics in all these different areas?”

“Yeah, it’s been wild to see,” Mahomes responded.

He added, “I mean, I try to focus in on football as much as possible, but there’s always some conspiracy theories out there. I just try to enjoy football, my family, and I kind of stay off social media as much as possible.”

Phillip responded positively to the 28-year-old’s decision to limit his use of social media, “Yeah, I would say that is wise.”

Phillip’s comment centers on what can reasonably be described as a “wild” conspiracy theory that speculated the Super Bowl would be “rigged” so the Chiefs would win, then pop singer Taylor Swift — who is dating the team’s Travis Kelce — would endorse President Joe Biden.

In the wake of the conspiracy theory going viral, Biden’s team got in on the fun after the Chief’s victory, sharing a picture of the president with lasers coming out of his eyes and a caption that read, “Just like we drew it up.”

While the Chief’s won, Swift opted not to offer an endorsement on Sunday night.
