There is a new Barbie on store shelves.
Autistic Barbie was added Monday Mattel’s line of fashion dolls, NewsNation reported.
Mattel officials said the addition celebrates diversity in its effort to make the dolls more inclusive.
The new Barbie was developed in partnership with the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, which advocates for the rights and better media representation of people with autism.
The goal was to create a Barbie that reflects some of the ways autistic people may experience and process the world around them, per a Mattel news release.
“The doll, designed with guidance from the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, helps to expand what inclusion looks like in the toy aisle and beyond because every child deserves to see themselves in Barbie,” said Jamie Cygielman, Mattel’s global head of dolls.
The doll has a range wide of behaviors and difficulties associated with autism. This includes an eye gaze shifted slightly to the side to avoid direct eye contact and articulated elbows and wrists to acknowledge the gestures some autistic people use to process sensory information.
Each doll comes with a pink finger clip fidget spinner, noise-canceling headphones and a pink tablet modeled after the devices some autistic people use to communicate.
Autistic Barbie joins Barbies with Down syndrome, a blind Barbie and a Ken with vitiligo.
The doll will be available at Mattel’s online shop and at Target stores on Monday.
The suggested retail price is $11.87.
Walmart stores are expected to have the new Barbie in March, Mattel said.
