Democrat California Rep. Maxine Waters told the public on Tuesday that there is “no violence” happening at the wide-scale riots in Los Angeles, California, as rioters light the streets on fire.
Rioters have looted local businesses, burned cars and threw Molotov cocktails and fireworks on the streets of Los Angeles in response to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) arrest of illegal immigrants with heinous criminal backgrounds. Waters argued during a House Democrat presser that all the violence that Americans are watching with their own eyes is not actually real, and that these riots are peaceful.
“Even those who were out of step with what we were advocating, [which is] peaceful protest, did not create any violence,” Waters said. “Nobody was shot, nobody was killed. Get it through your head. And so, when martial law is called, what are you gonna say? I missed the point. Don’t miss the point, you all. Don’t think that because somehow because they called out the National Guard, there was violence. There was no violence. I was on the street, I know. And I went from downtown detention back outside into the community, talking to people what happened in Paramount, what happened in Compton, what happened in Englewood.”
“So, first of all get it straight and don’t just rely on what you’re being told in the few incidents that you saw,” Waters continued.

The Democratic representative made similar remarks during a phone interview with CNN, stating that she was “surprised” at the Los Angeles police chief’s comments about the riots.
President Donald Trump deployed at least 2,000 troops from the National Guard on Saturday to quell the tumultuous riots happening in the streets. Democrat California Attorney General Rob Bonta, along with California Gov. Gavin Newsom, sued the Trump administration on Monday for the deployment, with the attorney general stating that the action was “unnecessary and counterproductive.”
Around 700 Marines have traveled to Los Angeles to help combat the violence as of Monday.
Rioters have set cars and other objects on fire, destroyed local businesses and vandalized property with mostly anti-Trump rhetoric across the city, which has led to several arrests and conflicts with law enforcement.
Rioters spray painted the words, “REMOVE TRUMP’S HEAD” on the Los Angeles County Law Library building.
The rioters even harassed ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents by pelting their vehicles with rocks, Fox News’ Bill Melugin reported. One ICE agent suffered a minor incarceration to his hand as a result of a rock hitting his windshield.
