Republican Michigan Rep. Lisa McClain secured the role of House GOP conference chair in a Wednesday vote, elevating her as the highest-ranking Republican woman in Congress for the upcoming term.
McClain won decisively over Republican Florida Rep. Kat Cammack, securing a 146-67-1 vote, with a single ballot cast for Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Politico reported, citing sources close to the vote. Elected to Congress in 2020, McClain has actively campaigned alongside GOP leaders this year.

Detroit News previously reported that McClain, a second-term congresswoman from Bruce Township, planned to announce her bid for House Republican Conference chair Monday. McClain currently serves as the conference secretary.
She will succeed Republican New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, who is leaving to join the upcoming Trump administration. Trump has chosen Stefanik to serve as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, marking one of his first key appointments since his election victory last week.
