On Wednesday, SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly told guest Dr. Casey Means that Means sounded “too optimistic” about former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s plans to potentially lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and predicted that big government could potentially step in to block his goals.
During his campaign, President-elect Donald Trump vowed to help address the country’s health issues, teaming up with Kennedy and his former running mate Nicole Shanahan to promote the “Make America Healthy Again” slogan. On “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Means said she believes Kennedy could accomplish some of his goals, like cleaning up America’s food system, before Kelly interrupted to call out how Means appeared “too hopeful” about what could actually be done in Washington, D.C.
“Forgive me for interrupting you, but I’ve watched your story, which is very moving, and I believe you were deeply affected by the loss of your mother, which was totally understandable, and you write so beautifully about that, what it meant for you when you were losing her and the experiences you and she had,” Kelly said.
“But this is my long windup of saying you’re too optimistic. You’re too hopeful. I am a cynical newswoman who covers Capitol Hill and these politicians for a living, and I do not believe people are fundamentally good over there. I think they want to get paid,” Kelly added. “I’m very worried about [it]. I haven’t looked at it, but I’m sure that there are some big players in Big Ag[riculture] or Big Pharma who are big Trump donors who are going to pick up the bat phone to say, ‘RFK J[r]. is fucking annoying, and I don’t want him cracking down on seed oils or pesticide use or processed foods.’”
Means went on to push back against the SiriusXM host, highlighting how Trump serving his last term could motivate him to not be swayed by donors.

“I think we have to take at face value the words coming out of Donald Trump’s mouth recently. Donald Trump is eloquently talking about how he wants his legacy to be turning the tide on American health. I believe the energy behind that is real. I also, like I said, he’s already a billionaire. He has a bunch of grandchildren and a bunch of children who care about health, and he can’t run again,” Means said.
“So there is, I think, a really cool nexus of opportunity where he might say, ‘I don’t care about those donors,’” Means added. “He doesn’t need donors anymore, actually, right? Because he’s not running again. So maybe there’s a window here where real change, uncompromised change, could happen.”
While Trump previously worked with Kennedy during his first term, Democrats have heavily criticized his recent nomination for HHS. Less than 24 hours after his announcement to Trump’s Cabinet, corporate media pundits on MSNBC and CNN called out Kennedy and said he was a danger to Americans due to his stance on vaccines. Those pundits also questioned Kennedy’s experience.
