First Lady Melania Trump is sharing a reminder to Americans about the importance of adhering to the updated social distancing guidelines.
The First Lady took to Twitter with a video announcement to Americans. Trump offered details about the changes that have been implemented for social distancing.
While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending that Americans wear masks in public, Trump wants everyone to be mindful that masks do not substitute the need for social distancing. Masks serve as an additional protective measure for Americans’ safety.
“As the CDC continues to study the spread of the COVID-19, they recommend people wear cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing measures can be difficult to maintain,” Trump said in the video on Thursday.
She added, “Remember, this does not replace the importance of social distancing.”

Trump’s message comes just days after the CDC’s latest recommendation for Americans to wear cloth masks in public.
On Wednesday, the CDC also announced its discussion about loosening social distancing guidelines for Americans in low-risk areas of the country.
Again stressing the importance of wearing masks, the CDC noted that those who have recovered from coronavirus would be required to “test their temperature twice a day and wear a face mask,”
Ahead of Wednesday’s White House Coronavirus Task Force briefing, Dr. Deborah Birx also explained how the degree of exposure is factored in. As Trump reiterated, masks alone will not be enough to decrease exposure to the virus.
“It looks at degree of exposure and really making it clear that exposure occurs within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes, so really understanding where you shouldn’t be within 6 feet of people right now,” Birx said, adding, “If you’re in a work situation where you have to be, there will be a series of recommendations.”
