First Lady Melania Trump’s former close friend and adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff is sharing audio about the first lady talking about her controversial “I really don’t care. Do u?” jacket.
During Wolkoff’s interview on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” Thursday night, she released the audio of her phone call with the first lady.
Wolkoff asked Trump in June 2018 while laughing, “So what prompted you to want to buy that jacket?” The first lady pointed to “liberals” in her response.
“I’m driving liberals crazy. That’s for sure,” she said in part of the clip played on CNN. “And that, you know, that’s — and they deserve it. You understand? And everybody is like, ‘Oh, my god this is the worst. This is the worst.'”
Trump added, “I mean come on, they are crazy. Okay?”
Listen to her remarks below:
"The jacket was… a publicity stunt, and it was to garner the attention of the press, to make sure that everyone was aware that Melania was going to the border."

In June 2018, the first lady received backlash after she traveled to the U.S.-Mexico border to tour an immigrant children’s shelter while being seen wearing the “I really don’t care. Do u?” jacket on the way.
Her spokeswoman said at the time, “It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe.”
President Donald Trump also tweeted at the time, “‘I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?’ written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!”
Wolkoff also shared another audio clip from July 2018 where Melania Trump is heard talking about backlash received over the Trump administration’s family separation policy, as IJR reported.
“I’m working…my a** off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a f**k about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?” Melania Trump said, before adding, “OK, and then I do it and I say that I’m working on Christmas and planning for the Christmas and they said, ‘Oh, what about the children that they were separated?’ Give me a f**king break.”
The first lady continued on the call with Wolkoff, “Were they were saying anything when Obama did that? I can not go, I was trying to get the kid reunited with the mom. I didn’t have a chance — needs to go through the process and through the law.”
