Mickey Rourke took to social media Monday to forcefully distance himself from a GoFundMe campaign bearing his name, as reports swirl about his finances and an alleged threat of eviction.
According to Page Six, the 73-year-old actor posted an Instagram video insisting he had nothing to do with the fundraiser, which has already raised more than $100,000.
Rourke described himself as “confused” and “frustrated,” making it clear he does not want public sympathy — or money.
“That’s not me, OK?” Rourke said flatly.
The “Sin City” star claimed he did not know the crowdfunding platform itself.
“I wouldn’t know what a GoFund[Me] foundation is in a million years,” he said.
Rourke went further, angrily rejecting the idea that he would ever ask fans or strangers for help.
“If I needed money, I wouldn’t ask for no f–king charity. I’d rather stick a gun up my ass and pull the trigger,” he said. “My life is very simple, I wouldn’t go to outside sources like that.”
He stressed that pride has always prevented him from seeking handouts.
“It’s not my style to ask strangers or fans or anybody for a nickel,” Rourke said, adding that anyone who donated should immediately “get [their] money back.”
The actor also speculated about who may have launched the fundraiser without his consent.
“There’s only one person I can think of that would do such a thing, and I hope it’s not the person I’m thinking about,” Rourke said. “It’s humiliating … But I’m sure I’ll get over it like anything else.”
The GoFundMe page claims it was created with Rourke’s “full permission” by Liya-Joelle Jones, who describes herself as the assistant to his manager, Kimberly Hines. Hines is listed as the fundraiser’s beneficiary.
Elsewhere in his video, Rourke addressed reports that he owes nearly $60,000 in back rent, offering a rare moment of reflection on his past decisions.
“I wasn’t diplomatic,” he said, describing the “really terrible job” he believes he did managing his career.
“I had to go to over 20 years of therapy to get over the damage that was done to me years ago,” Rourke told followers. “I worked very hard to work through that. I’m not that person anymore.”
While denying any charity appeal, Rourke acknowledged that he recently borrowed money “from a great friend.”
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Rourke is “rich poor” and lives “paycheck-to-paycheck.” A source told the outlet, “He spends … so fast that he is at square one right around the time that he starts making money.”
Despite the controversy, Rourke made clear he wants no part of public fundraising — and wants his name taken out of it entirely.
