Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made it clear that, even if President Donald Trump loses to Joe Biden in November, the Democrats on Capitol Hill won’t be finished with their investigations into the 45th president.

During her weekly press conference on Thursday, Pelosi suggested that House Weighs and Means Committee Chairman Richie Neal will continue to seek Trump’s tax returns regardless of the election outcome.

The Speaker said, “When we win this election and we have a new President of the United States in January and we have a new Secretary of the Treasury and Richie Neal asks for the president’s returns; then the world will see what the president has been hiding all of this time.”

Democrats have been trying to get their hands on Trump’s taxes for years. But that battle has been locked in the courts for a long time.

In July, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump is not immune from criminal investigations — he’s currently facing one such investigation from a prosecutor in New York. However, at the same time, the court ruled that House Democrats should not be granted immediate access to the president’s taxes, a decision which assured that Trump’s records will be kept secret at least until after the November election.

At the time of those decisions, Speaker Pelosi celebrated the rulings as a victory for Democrats.

Pelosi said, “The Court has reaffirmed the Congress’s authority to conduct oversight on behalf of the American people, as it asks for further information from the Congress.  Congress’s constitutional responsibility to uncover the truth continues, specifically related to the President’s Russia connection that he is hiding.”

After the July Supreme Court decision, Trump tweeted, “This is all a political prosecution. I won the Mueller Witch Hunt, and others, and now I have to keep fighting in a politically corrupt New York. Not fair to this Presidency or Administration!”

Investigations into Trump’s taxes and finances have intensified over the past year. The New York Attorney General is currently investigating whether his company doctored financial statements.
