A U.S. Navy member who serves as the president’s valet has tested positive for the coronavirus amid the outbreak across the country.
It was first reported by CNN that the personnel is one of President Donald Trump’s personal valets. The valets work closely with the president and first family.
Deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley confirmed the report while noting that the president is still in “good health.” He wrote in a statement:
“We were recently notified by the White House Medical Unit that a member of the United States Military, who works on the White House campus, has tested positive for Coronavirus. The President and the Vice President have since tested negative for the virus and they remain in great health.”
A source told CNN that the president was not happy when he heard this news on Wednesday. He was then tested by the White House physician. Trump, along with the vice president and other senior officials, is testing weekly for the coronavirus.
This comes at a time that several states across the country begin reopening their economies. In the U.S., there are more than 1,231,000 positive coronavirus cases and over 73,500 deaths due to the virus, as of Thursday morning.
