Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is renewing his call for the assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” Monday night, Graham said, “I want the Russian people to take this man out.”
“I don’t care if we put him in jail in The Hague or somebody kills him. He needs to go. He’s a war criminal,” he continued.
Graham went on to say that he believes at least 90 senators will back his resolution to support a war crimes investigation of Putin.
Last week, Graham tweeted, “Is there a Brutus in Russia? Is there a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg in the Russian military? The only way this ends is for somebody in Russia to take this guy out. You would be doing your country – and the world – a great service.”
“The only people who can fix this are the Russian people. Easy to say, hard to do. Unless you want to live in darkness for the rest of your life, be isolated from the rest of the world in abject poverty, and live in darkness you need to step up to the plate,” he added.
Fox News’ Laura Ingraham ripped into Graham for his comments during a segment of her show as she said, “He’s basically saying someone should assassinate Putin. I don’t know why a sitting U.S. senator would be tweeting that out. It seems dangerous and stupid to say that. And we like Lindsey Graham, but that’s just a stupid comment.”
Meanwhile, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) called his colleague’s comments an “exceptionally bad idea.”
“Use massive economic sanctions; BOYCOTT Russian oil & gas; and provide military aid so the Ukrainians can defend themselves. But we should not be calling for the assassination of heads of state,” Cruz said.
