American-Canadian rock star Neil Young has always expressed disapproval of President Donald Trump. Now, his level of disdain has reached an unprecedented high. Now that he’s officially a U.S. citizen now he’s sounding off even more.
Yesterday, Young has penned an open letter to Trump. The scathing letter, which was recently posted to Young’s website, tackles the number of issues he has with Trump.
The Grammy award-winning rocker – who recently obtained U.S. citizenship – made his sentiments quite clear calling Trump a “disgrace” to the country.
“You are a disgrace to my country,” Young wrote on his website, NeilYoungArchives. “Your mindless destruction of our shared natural resources, our environment, and our relationships with friends around the world is unforgivable.… Our first black president was a better man than you are.”
Young’s open letter follows his previous remarks about Trump’s use of his song at this rallies. In the past, Trump has echoed the words of Young’s song “Rockin’ in the Free World.”
On multiple occasions, Young asked Trump to refrain from referencing the song but he’s aware there’s nothing he can legally do to stop him. Although Trump has yet to respond to Young’s demands, he now hopes the president is reminded of his stance each time he hears his voice.
Before closing the letter, Young touched on another candidate’s policies he, personally, aligns with. Although he didn’t say the candidate’s name, he included his initials.
“One of your opponents has the answers I like,” Young wrote. “He is aiming at preserving our children’s future, directly. He is not popular with the Democratic establishment because, unlike all the other candidates, he is not pandering to the industries accelerating Earth’s Climate Crisis, the end of the world as we know it. He is truly fighting for the USA. His initials are BS. Not his policies.”
The letters “B.S.” only apply to Democratic presidential hopeful – Bernie Sanders.
Trump has yet to respond to Young’s letter but ironically, he’s spoken highly of him in the past. During a previous interview with Rolling Stone, Trump admitted to being a fan of Young’s music.
“He’s got something very special,” Trump said during the interview. “I’ve listened to his music for years.” He added, “I’ve met him on occasions and he’s a terrific guy.”
However, when he was asked about his favorite song by Young, he reportedly could not name one. “It’s sort of all favorite,” he said. “I like the older stuff better, which is typical with a lot of artists.”
