A North Carolina pastor’s organs were in the process of being harvested when he miraculously showed signs of life.
Ryan Marlow was taken to the hospital in August after contracting Listeria, according to the New York Post. Listeria is a foodborne bacterial illness that is often “caused by eating improperly processed deli meats and unpasteurized milk products,” according to MayoClinic.
As a result, Marlow’s brain swelled and he slipped into a coma, per the Post.
On August 27, Ryan Marlow’s wife, Megan Marlow, was given some grave news by doctors who were treating her husband.
Doctors concluded that Ryan Marlow was brain dead and now clinically dead.
In the state of North Carolina, the law states that if you are brain dead then you are declared legally dead, according to WCNC.
“[A nurse] said ‘Your husband has passed.’ Those were the words that were used,” Megan Marlow told the local news outlet WXII12, per the Post.
On August 29, Megan Marlow received a phone call from a doctor at the hospital telling her that her husband had suffered traumatic brain damage.
The next day he was scheduled to be taken off of life support and his organs would be removed for donation.
“I said, ‘He’s still pretty much brain dead, right?’ and I was told yes,” Megan Marlow recalled.
Megan Marlow went to the hospital the following morning to say her last goodbyes to her husband before he was taken into surgery for organ harvesting.
When she arrived, she received some unexpected news. Her niece was also at the hospital and told her that Ryan Marlow’s feet moved when he was shown videos of their “children singing.”
Megan Marlow said she didn’t want to have “false hope” because it could just be “spinal reflexes.”
“I went into the hallway […] literally the OR team was ready to take him, and I tell the nurse ‘I need tests done now to see if he’s brain dead.’ […] Long story short; he’s not brain dead, my friends,'” Megan Marlow explained.
In a Facebook live video titled, “Unexpected update,” which was posted on August 31, Megan Marlow gave an update on her husband.
Additionally, Megan Marlow explained that Ryan Marlow’s doctor called her and explained because of his “rare circumstance” they called in an expert panel and discovered that they had made a mistake and he did not die nor did he suffer from “neurological death.”
Megan Marlow also said that a CT scan proved Ryan Marlow was “not brain dead” because blood was flowing to his brain. She also claimed that when she kissed his arm and spoke to him his heart rate “jumped up.”
“My husband is still very critical,” she said.
Jesus Christ said in Matthew 17:20, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Megan Marlow is still keeping the faith.
“God’s not done. I don’t know my husband still may go to glory with all of this. He may still be with Jesus at the end of all this. I don’t know, but I have to just trust God’s trying to do something and whatever it is i’m just gonna trust Him and pray. That’s all I can do,” she said.
