A New York City councilwoman predicted Tuesday that Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago would be “terminated” by voters over illegal immigration.

Johnson criticized United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over raids carried out since President Donald Trump took office on Jan. 20, reiterating that Chicago was a sanctuary city. Republican Councilwoman Vickie Paladino of New York City told “America Reports” co-host Sandra Smith that Johnson was “not living in reality” by criticizing efforts to arrest illegal immigrants with criminal records.

“Boy,” Smith said. “I can tell you that we’ve had many of those Chicago residents who are fed up, who have spoken up at city council meetings, some of them lifelong Democrats who are saying, no more.”

“Well, good for them, because this man is insane. This man is not dealing with reality. He will be terminated. He will be – I do not see him seeing the next election,” Paladino said.

State and city officials have spent hundreds of millions of dollars to provide housing, clothes and food to more than 35,000 migrants who were transported to the Windy City, Fox News reported.

“You think he’s going to lose his job?” Smith asked.

“Oh, without a question or a doubt,” Paladino responded. “And if he doesn’t lose his job, that should be looked into, because the people themselves have spoken. You’ve got to realize, this is a minority mayor who is talking and the people making the biggest fuss about this is the minority community in his city of Chicago. Their neighborhoods are under siege.”

Over 130,000 migrants have arrived in New York City over the last year and a half, the New York Times reported, prompting Adams to announce a number of budget cuts in November 2023. Meanwhile, Chicago residents have protested and taken legal action to prevent the city from housing migrants in a closed-down high school and two other locations on the South Side of the city in 2023.

Trump promised to carry out a massive deportation effort targeting illegal immigrants during the 2024 presidential campaign. Biden administration officials, including former Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, claimed that the border is secure on multiple occasions, despite the fact that the Border Patrol encountered millions of illegal immigrants since the start of fiscal year 2021, according to figures released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
