Christopher Anthony Lunsford, who uses his stage name Oliver Anthony, went viral after the release of his song, “Rich Men North of Richmond.”

While his song quickly became seen as a conservative anthem for the working class against the politicians and corporate overlords in Washington, D.C. who have seemingly controlled the economy, Anthony came out in a YouTube video dispelling the notion that his song was a Republican anthem after it was used at the first GOP presidential debate.

Anthony can be heard singing about working overtime for less than ideal pay and sings that the “dollar ain’t s**t” and how it’s “taxed to no end.”

“I’ve been selling my soul, working all day, overtime hours for bulls**t pay so I can sit out here and waste my life away,” Anthony sings.

In his video response, Anthony shared that it bothers him when people “wrap politics up into this.”

“I’m disappointed to see like it’s aggravating seeing people on conservative news try to identify with me like I’m one of them,” the singer says. “It’s aggravating seeing certain musicians and politicians act like we’re buddies and act like we’re fighting the same struggle.”

Anthony revealed that it was “funny” seeing his song in the presidential debate because he wrote his song about “those people.”

“That song has nothing to do with Joe Biden,” the singer said. “It’s a lot bigger than Joe Biden. That song was written about the people on that stage, and a lot more too not just them. But, definitely them.”

The singer’s song made waves as it zoomed to the #1 spot on iTunes in August.

Prior to his new-found fame, Anthony from Farmville, Virginia had worked as a former factory worker. Anthony and his wife, Tiffany, share two children together, along with their new son.
