There may be drama from time to time on the floor a state House of Representatives, but what happened Wednesday was called “political theater.”
That is when two Black drag queens performed a dance for the Oregon House of Representatives. The performance was done in honor of a resolution from Democrats acknowledging “the artistry of black drag performers,” state Rep. Travis E. Nelson told the New York Post.
“This was the Oregon House floor this morning used to celebrate Black Drag Queens,” he wrote. “I’m not sure the Founding Fathers envisioned taxpayer-funded legislative chambers being turned into platforms for political theater. The House floor is meant for serious debate, lawmaking, and serving all Oregonians not partisan spectacles designed to push cultural agendas.”
“If this feels more like a performance than governance, you’re not alone,” Yunker added.
Social media also went ablaze, with the scene drawing mixed reactions.
Many others posted on X about the show:
On the national level President Donald Trump has voiced his opposition to drag shows. He especially dislikes drag shows done in front of children.
Trump took his dislike to the next level when he fired the Kennedy Center board. He appointed himself as the new chairman and selected his own board.
He lambasted the previous board for allowing drag shows that were “specifically targeting our youth” to perform in the Kennedy Center, per the Post.
