More than 41,000 bottles of nasal spray sold at Walgreens have been recalled.
The Food and Drug Administration(FDA) announced recall of 41,328 bottles of Walgreens nasal spray, according to Fox Business.
Three recall is due to concerns the sprays may be contaminated with pseudomonas lactis. This is a bacterium found in raw milk.
The recall is specific to the 1.5-oz (45mL) bottle of Walgreens Saline Nasal Spray with Xylitol.
“Under the guidance of the FDA, our supplier has initiated a voluntary recall of Walgreens Saline Nasal Spray WITH XYLITOL. This was done out of an abundance of caution and the safety of our customers remains our top priority,” a Walgreens spokesperson said.
Those products recall Ed have the following lots and expiration dates: Lot No. 71409 — Expires: 2/28/2027; and Lot No. 71861 — Expires: 8/31/2027.
The recalled sprays were sold at Walgreens stores throughout the country, per the FDA.
“Consumers with affected product should not use it and return it to a store for a full refund,” the Walgreens spokesperson said.
Authorities said this was a voluntary recall, but did not elaborate about the contamination.
The FDA said this was a Class II recall, which is issued when exposure to or use of a possibly contaminated product could “cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”
This classification can also be used if the “probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends all individuals six months or older receive a flu vaccine.
The CDC added that “vaccination is particularly important” for those at higher risk of serious complications from the flu.
