One week after a jury in Manhattan found former President Donald Trump guilty of falsifying business records, a poll is providing a glimpse of how the outcome may impact voters.

On Thursday, a poll released by Emerson college found Trump narrowly leading President Joe Biden 46%-45%.

The survey found support for the former president stayed the same from last month, however, support for Biden increased by 1%.

Yet, when independent voters were included, 50% said they would vote for Trump while 50% said they would vote for the 46th president.

When it comes to the question of whether Trump’s guilty verdict will make a difference on how respondents vote, 46% said the outcome of the trial makes “no impact on their vote.”

However, just over a quarter of respondents, 27%, said it makes them more likely to vote for Trump. By contrast, 33% said it makes them less likely to vote for him.

“A majority of Democrats say it makes them less likely to support Trump (51%) and a majority of Republicans (55%) say it makes them more likely to support Trump. A plurality of independents say it makes no impact (41%), while 38% are less likely to vote for Trump and 21% more likely.” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said.

The poll also found 40% of respondents think Trump should receive prison time, while 25% think he should pay a fine, and 15% believe he should receive probation.

The Emerson poll was conducted June 4-5 and surveyed 1,000 registered voters.

The poll from Emerson is not the only to suggest voters are quick to brush off the guilty verdict. On Sunday, an ABC News/Ipsos poll found 50% of Americans said they believe the decision to find Trump guilty in his hush money trial was correct.

And roughly 49% say he should end his campaign. In 2023, 49% said in the ABC News poll he should suspend his campaign due to an indictment.

Despite those findings, the former president’s favorability rating has held steady at 31%.

The poll also found 47% of Americans believe the charges were politically motivated, while 38% said the opposite.
