A paid protestor employed by a Chinese Communist Party-linked activist group heckled Treasury Scott Bessent during a night out in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.
Bessent was dining at the wine bar Reveler’s Hour when a Code Pink organizer sarcastically toasted him in front of other guests and railed against the administration’s sanctions on American adversaries. The secretary departed the upscale establishment after the restaurant owner allegedly declined to remove the paid agitator.
The woman who disrupted Bessent’s dinner was identified as Code Pink organizer Olivia DiNucci. She was among Code Pink activists who crashed a dinner attended by President Donald Trump and other top administration officials at Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab in September. DiNucci and other protestors got within feet of the president where they called him “the Hitler of our time.”
Code Pink is a far-left activist group that pushes pro-Palestinian and anti-foreign intervention advocacy. The group has received more than $1.4 million from a donor with deep ties to the CCP and has also collaborated with a U.S.-designated terrorist organization.
“Let’s give it up for the man who is eating in peace as people starve across the world based on his sanctions, which are economic warfare” DiNucci said after introducing Bessent as a “special guest” to the restaurant’s patrons.
DiNucci’s interruption was largely met with audible groans by other guests and a long “Boooooo” by a smiling Bessent.
“You are ignorant, and you have no idea how ignorant you are,” Bessent told DiNucci as she accused him of murdering 600,000 people annually through economic sanctions. Countries that are subject to comprehensive sanctions by the United States include North Korea, Iran and Cuba.
Bessent asked Reveler’s Hour staff to remove the agitator, according to a NOTUS reporter, who was dining at the restaurant during the altercation. Code Pink took a victory lap on social media after Bessent departed the restaurant with DiNucci still at her table.
A source close to Bessent told NOTUS that the secretary left the restaurant mid-meal “precisely because the restaurant owner refused to respect other diners and remove the heckler in question. Also, the food sucked.”
Reveler’s Hour did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A spokesperson for Code Pink referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to a press release taking credit for the protest.
“He’s eating in this nice restaurant in Washington, D.C., when sanctions cause starvation across the world,” DiNucci told NOTUS following the incident. “We should be confronting them with our voice as much as we can because people across the world are affected by this.”
DiNucci previously worked for independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign, according to a short biography featured on Code Pink’s website.
Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene embraced the radical group in a social media post on Dec. 10. The outgoing representative was seen sporting a keffiyeh with CodePink co-founder Medea Benjamin in her Capitol Hill office.
Greene defended her “friendship” with Benjamin, who regularly heckles Republican lawmakers in the halls of Congress and denounced Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as a “Christian extremist.”
